NEWS RELEASE / February 26, 2010 Louise Heine Director of Marketing & Member Relations York County Chamber of Commerce 96 South George Street, Suite 300 York, PA 17401 What’s Fueling at The Chamber? It’s the recently launched CHAMBERfuel a growth network for young business people and professionals under 40. CHAMBERfuel is the preferred network for young people interested in making business connections. “In addition to business people aged 25-40, our target audience includes nonprofit, or what I like to call community profit leaders…younger and older participants who are interested in CHAMBERfuel, as well as non-Chamber members, or those I call future members, stated York County Chamber President, Tom Donley.” CHAMBERfuel grew out of the fifth goal of The Chamber’s 5ive to Thrive Strategic Plan: “Connect the Next Generation of leaders with The Chamber and our Partners.” In addition to business advocacy and development, continuous improvement and promoting growth in York and the broader region, a “Next Gen” strategy is critical to future economic and community development. Due to changing demographics and competition, The Chamber identified the need to attract and retain young, talented people in the York area. The size of the Generations X and Y populations drops off steeply from the Baby Boomers, and many other cities and regions are aggressively recruiting our young talent. In an effort to strengthen programs and services CHAMBERfuel members are beginning to make an impact on The Chamber by restructuring Chamber events in order to draw young people into relevant Chamber programs. Take the Annual Dinner coming up on March 19. Upon arrival you’ll notice the new ambience-décor and lighting, along with a lounge area for relaxing. After dinner and the program, be prepared to get up and dance when local band Groove Jones takes the stage. During 2010, CHAMBERfuel will hold several educational and networking business events, including mentoring and best practices. CHAMBERfuel will be hosting a “Market Mixer” on Wednesday, March 31 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Central Market. Other groups interested in learning about CHAMBERfuel, and the March 31 event, should contact Jennifer McCann, mccann@yorkchamber.com at The Chamber.
